PAINTING 5 - Mushroom Jelly 1

A bear, a bulb of garlic, a chicken and a banana and a jellyfish that is also a mushroom walk into a bar....

Painting No. 5 is a mushroom jellyfish, which is not technically a thing, but frankly I think nature has been playing it a little safe.

So I fixed it.

Part mushroom.
Part jellyfish.
Entirely unbothered by the fact that it makes absolutely no biological sense.

She is floating through a deep blue somewhere that could be the ocean, could be the night sky, could be a forest after someone ate the wrong mushroom.

We don't know.

And she isn't telling.

I wanted this one to feel soft and strange and dreamy. Her pale mushroom cap floats above these long wandering tendrils, surrounded by tiny white specks that could be bubbles or stars or spores or tiny interdimensional portals.

Again, we're only five paintings in.

Things are getting weird.

And I am DELIGHTED.

Because this is exactly what I wanted from the 100 Paintings Challenge.

To stop needing every idea to make sense before I make it.

To follow the ridiculous little thought that pops into my head and says:

You know what would be cool?

A mushroom jellyfish.

And instead of explaining to myself all the reasons that isn't a proper painting...

I painted the mushroom jellyfish.

Perhaps that is her entire philosophy.

Not everything needs to be understood.

Not everything needs a five-year plan.

Sometimes you can just float around being a beautiful, impossible little weirdo and see where you end up.

Honestly?

Goals.
