SOVEREIGN

There comes a point when you stop asking.

Stop asking if you're allowed.
If they approve.
If you're too much.
Too loud. Too ambitious. Too strange. Too old. Too late.
Stop asking someone to tell you if you're making the right call.

And you just fucking decide.

Sovereign is about that moment.

Not sovereignty as superiority.
Not a crown because you need everyone to know you're the queen.

The quieter, much more dangerous and wild kind.

The woman who knows she belongs to herself.

She can change her mind.
She can leave.
She can begin again.
She can want more.
She can protect her peace without writing a twelve-page apology for it.
She no longer needs to explain.

And perhaps most importantly, she no longer requires a committee meeting before making decisions about her own damn life.

I wanted this piece to feel rich and a little unruly. Gold colliding with deep violet and almost-black, with these soft, petal-like marks moving through it all. There is darkness here, but it isn't swallowing anything. There is softness, but it isn't weakness.

Because that's the Sovereign spirit to me.

This is for the woman who has spent enough of her life making herself understandable to everyone else.

Hang it somewhere you'll see it often.

And whenever you start wondering whether you're allowed to take up the space, make the move, change the plan or choose the thing you actually want...
