TAKE ME TO THE WATER
24" x 36” on wood canvas | Acrylic, gesso, paste, and metallic gold
Original fine art by Erin Elizabeth
Where do you go when you need to heal? To be heard, to express your feelings, your pain, your sorrows? What place calls out to you when your feelings are too large to be held in your body?
For me, it is always the same. Some coastline, some shore, some vast moving body of water that doesn't ask me to explain myself, where I can express joy, sorrow, fear, love, where I can send out my entire thought process without reserve.
Layer upon layer of white moves across the surface like foam catching light, alive and in movement, in the way real water is alive, always rearranging itself, always in the middle of becoming something else. Underneath, the blues and teals run deep and unhurried.
And scattered through it - small, easy to miss - flickers of gold. Sunlight finding a way through anyway, even here, even in the parts of the sea we go to when we're not okay.
There's no horizon line in this painting. No shore, no edge, no distance to travel to arrive. You're already in it. You're immersed in the thick of it. That was intentional - because healing rarely waits for you to get somewhere first. It meets you exactly where the water is, mid-wave, mid-breath, mid-feeling.
This is what the sea has always offered, wordlessly: a place large enough to hold whatever you bring to it, quiet enough to let you finally hear yourself think. Grief moves differently near water. So does joy. So does everything in between.
Take Me To The Water isn't a painting of the ocean. It's an open invitation for the person who doesn't feel the need to perform, explain, or hold it all together anymore.
Just float.
Just breathe.
Just be met.
