PAINTING 2 - This Banana is Missing A Chicken

There it is.

The banana.

The banana the chicken needs.

Does the chicken know it needs the banana? Does it know there is an alarmingly stuck-in-your-head catchy song about this nonsense?

Unclear.

Does the banana know there is currently a mildly distressed chicken waiting for it in another painting?

Also unclear.

But I have faith they will find each other.

Painting No. 2 in my 100 Paintings Challenge is a gloriously cheerful, slightly wonky banana against a pink checkerboard, painted on beautiful rough-edged paper with absolutely no interest in taking itself seriously.

Because I think art is allowed to just make you happy.

It doesn't always need to represent the crushing weight of the human condition.

Sometimes it can be a banana.

A really delightful banana.

And while she is perfectly capable of hanging on a wall all by herself, there is, of course, Painting No. 1: This Chicken Needs a Banana.

Which creates something of a situation.

You could buy the banana.

You could buy the chicken.

You could separate them forever like some kind of monster.

Or...

You could give the deeply concerned chicken the one thing she has been asking for.

Her banana.
