And now, for reasons nobody ask me to explain, there is garlic.
This is Painting No. 3 of my 100 Paintings Challenge, and apparently we are slowly assembling either a grocery list, a kitchen themed strong start, or the beginnings of an extremely questionable dinner.
I fucking love garlic. probably too much.
You don't add garlic to something and wonder where it went. Garlic arrives. Garlic has opinions. Garlic stays on your fingers for three business days. Garlic is your Aunt Selma that you introduce to friends and then wonder what sort of shenanigans are going to come out of her mouth.
And yet look at her here.
I made her all soft and lovely and slightly dramatic against this deep, warm purple.
A whole bulb, a few rogue cloves, painted loosely on rough-edged paper because I am becoming increasingly obsessed with making these little paintings feel imperfect and tactile and alive.
There is also something wonderfully beautiful about painting extremely ordinary things.
Things we walk past. Things we chop up.
Things sitting forgotten on the kitchen counter until they turn all wrinkly and weird. (Maybe this painting is my apology to all the garlic I have killed by neglect?)
But now look! Put them on a purple background and suddenly you're like:
Well fuck. Look at that garlic.
And THAT is exactly the kind of nonsense I hoped would happen when I decided to make 100 paintings without deciding what the 100 paintings were going to be.
So here she is.
The garlic.
Painting No. 3.
She has no known relationship to the chicken or the banana at this time.
But we're only three paintings in.
Anything could happen.
Original acrylic painting on rough-edged paper. Roughly 8.5 x 12" of garlicky goodness. One of one Painting 3 of 100
