The Morrigan was never the fair maiden.
She’s the unyielding goddess, not the one who came to make things comfortable or soft, light or easy.
She was sovereignty. War. Fate. Death. Victory.
The crow circling overhead when something had reached its end. She appears at the edge of transformation, when the old version of you can no longer come where you are going.
And maybe that’s why I love her. Maybe that’s why I’m painting her now.
Because there are seasons when becoming yourself isn’t particularly graceful.
It’s hard.
It’s cruel.
Sometimes you have to burn a few things down.
Leave things behind.
Get angry.
Get louder.
Choose yourself even when nobody understands what the fuck you’re doing.
The Morrigan reminds us that destruction and creation have always belonged to each other. You can’t have one without the other.
She doesn’t ask us to be fearless.
She asks us to remember our power through all of it. The good, the bad, and especially the ugly
