THE RAVEN
20" x 24" Acrylic on wood canvas
Original fine art by Erin Elizabeth
Do you ever feel like there is something about a raven that feels like it knows more than it's letting on? I do.
They have a strange and delightfully weird ancient intelligence behind their eyes. They love to play, and taunt, and make the most out of life. Ravens remember. They problem-solve. They recognize faces. They adapt. They have thousands of unique and beautiful sounds. They mimic. They watch the world incredibly closely.
And maybe that's the spirit of the raven I love most. The one that I painted into this piece.
They pay attention.
Know when something has changed.
Know when you've outgrown a place, a person, a version of yourself.
Be clever enough to change course.
Be curious enough to follow the strange path.
And don't be afraid of the parts of yourself that other people find a little too dark, too loud, too much, too difficult to understand. Too weird. Honestly, be so damn weird that you clear the place out.
The raven doesn't soften itself to be more palatable.
It just stands there in all that magnificent black and blue, watching, knowing, completely unconcerned with whether you understand it.
She's bold. She's weird. She's wise.
And I think she's for someone standing at the edge of a change, looking out at whatever comes next and thinking:
Okay. I'm paying attention.
Original painting. One of one.
Ready to find her person.
