I am in love with how this little thistle came out. This one is the brightest of the 4.
It's a really fun piece for me to create, in honour of my time here in this amazing place.

The thistle is - along with the unicorn, an emblem of the people here. A well-known story attributes the thistle being chosen as the emblem of Scotland because of the Battle of Largs in the 13th century.

A Norse army came to Scotland, intent on conquering. The legend has it that they left for the land in the cover of darkness, and were planning to ambush the sleeping Scottish Clansmen. In order to be as quiet as possible, the Norsemen removed their footwear. As they got dangerously close, one of them stepped onto a thorny thistle. His cry of pain woke the Scots, and the warriors rose up and defeated the invaders.

Not sure if there is any truth to it, but it what is said, and it's definitely a beautiful symbol for a very hearty and strong and fun and wild people.

This wee thistle is a powerful but contained 8" x 8" acrylic and art pen on canvas board. Will need framing
